5 Star Review!
Can one small farm be filled with big adventures? In Susie’s Day at the Farm by Patrice D. Wilkerson, Susie thinks so. From the moment her alarm rings, she can hardly wait to join her class on a trip to the local farm, eager to meet the animals and enjoy an outing in the fresh air. The story follows her as she takes a walk around the entire place, greeting sheep, chickens, a few playful piglets, and more. Each discovery fills her day with joy, laughter, and maybe some extra fun along the way. Written in rhyme, the book traces Susie’s experiences from morning to afternoon as she explores every corner of the grounds alongside her classmates. By the end of the trip, her enthusiasm and love absolutely shine through.
I really enjoyed Susie’s Day at the Farm by Patrice D. Wilkerson because it instantly made me smile. As an educator, I think the rhythmic verses flow easily, making it an excellent read-aloud for young children who love animals. Students would be excited to point out the words that rhyme and share which critters they liked the best. Extension activities could include making a list of words that sound the same, singing a farm song, drawing their favorite barnyard animal, or describing a field trip they’d like to take with their friends. The illustrations by Brooke Beaver are bright, friendly, and full of energy. It’s a delightful, engaging picture book that reminds us how exciting it can be to learn through adventure and play.

Big Fun for a Little One.
Such a cute, upbeat, uncomplicated book! I felt like I’d taken a trip to the farm myself. If you have a wee one who’s old enough to appreciate playful words written in a rhyming manner, this would be ideal to read out loud to them while they enjoy the cheerful illustrations.
It’s Fall (at least where I am), and I could see this book being a lead-in to a child’s first outing to a farm, or perhaps a local cider mill.
Everything about it is positive and happy. It’s a short read, perfect for shorter attention spans. What a fun way to set a mood, even if it’s just to go outside in the back yard and ‘play farm’.

Review
A positive and sweet story small children are sure to enjoy.
My Favorite Season is Spring, written by Patrice Wilkerson and illustrated by Brooke Beaver, tells the story of a little girl named Susie who wakes up to a buzzing bee and other signs of spring outside her bedroom window.
When she arrives at school, her teacher writes the names of the seasons on the board and asks students to share which is their favorite and why. Susie raises her hand to share that her favorite season is spring.
She describes her love for fresh air, blooming flowers, and a bright sun to her classmates. She then celebrates her favorite springtime activities, like kicking balls, flying kites, lying in the grass, and chasing butterflies.
The story ends with Susie back at home, watching and listening to birds as they sing outside her window, "Beautiful songs of spring."
I appreciated the gratitude Susie expressed for simple pleasures throughout this book. In a world dominated by television and video games, the story encouraged young readers (and listeners) to notice and appreciate things like fresh air and a warm, sunny day.
She also described deeply enjoying outdoor activities like flying a kite and watching clouds in the sky. Her example encourages these activities in young children in a natural way, inspiring them to explore nature and move their bodies.
Also, as a parent, I always enjoy a sweet, quick read! With just one sentence per page, this book rings in at 158 words total. This story length offers parents the perfect opportunity to connect with their children for just a few minutes on even the busiest day.
Overall, this is a positive and sweet story small children are sure to enjoy.
